It is here, in the tangles of branches and softness of moss where most secretive of the Faerie live. Many things may lie in the turn of the path. Perhaps a cottage awaits where a wise woman will teach you the secrets of her garden. Or perhaps you will find a maiden enclosed within a coffin of glass, waiting in stillness for the touch of lips upon her own. Or perhaps you will find a castle surrounded by briar. It is within the forest that many adventures of Faerie begin. The strange mists that filter through the stillness often form into vague shapes of beasts and monsters, confusing and frightening the mortal traveler. This place is a place of illusions, of voices and sounds and seeings that will try to take the traveler from off her path, lead her into the forest, and make her forever lost within. Perhaps she will remember to gather pebbles to drop behind her as she investigates the strange and beautiful music that floats through the air with the mist.

remember..... you believe!

And as the season come and go, here's something you might like to know ...
there are fairies everywhere, under bushes, in the air,
playing games just like you play, singing through their busy day.
So listen, touch, and look around -- in the air and on the ground.
And if you watch all nature's things, you might just see a fairy's wing.
(Unknown)

but just remember these wise words from Daisy: "Believe me Robyn, faeries are a law unto themselves, they act on a whim, sometimes they are kind and sometimes they are downright nasty. They probably just don't have our ethics "

calling the luck of the faery folk & matters of faery business..

This incantation can be done anytime during the summer, when the fireflies are
out. You must find a VERY quite and private place to do the incantation. Start with your arms out and walk in an open area that fireflies are in. Stop in the same position and call upon the great mother with the following chant:

Fireflies come dance with me
Fireflies come be with me
Oh Great Mother be with us tonight
With (your name) and the Fairy Folk
Fireflies show your true self
Do not fear me for I am (your name)
Your friend, Your Sister
Invite me into your world to dance

(Dance a joyous dance from your heart)
(Allow yourself to be free and at peace)

Continue Chant:

Fireflies, Fairy Folk, Oh Great Mother
Come dance with me, Be with me
Fairy Folk show your true self to me
I will protect you tonight as we dance

Dance the dance of the Fairy Folk

*repeat the above five lines, and dance the dance of the Fairy Folk until you
feel and see that the Fairy Folk are with you...Play with them as you like, when
you are done do the following:

Begin Chant to End the Dance

Fairy Folk, Fire Flies, Oh Great Mother
Fairy Folk, I (your name) leave you now
Go back to hide from where you came
Be not sad, or cry or weep
For I (your name) will return
To dance the Dance of the Fairy Folk
Peace be with you. Blessed Be.

stones of the faeries

Crystals attract faeries and stimulate plant growth, too. Make circles of clear quartz or strategically arrange larger crystal clusters near favorite plants or sources of water. the most appropriate are faerie stones (staurolite), quartz crystal, rose quartz, moonstone, celestite (blue quartz), selenite, amethyst, labradorite and amber. To guard against mischievous spirits, it is best to use flint.
Deva crystals are quartz crystals with lots of "fairy frost" that is, inclusions of white fillaments and frosty effects. Holding one of these while you meditate will facillitate contact with the fairy and Devic realms.

Fried Honeycakes

These cakes are not unlike those made on the night before Beltane by women around the turn of the century. These cakes were left in the garden to please Faery visitors. (I have not made these little honey cakes, so cannot vouch for the success of the recipe!)

1/2 cup sweet white wine
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 cup honey
2/3 cup flour
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Oil for frying
1/8 teaspoon salt

Beat the wine & egg in a medium bowl. Combine the flour cinnamon, salt &
sugar in a small bowl. Stir into the egg mixture. Let stand 30 minutes.
Combine the honey & nutmeg in a small bowl. Heat 1/2-inch of the oil in a
frying pan until hot, but not smoking. Drop the batter into the oil 1
tablespoon at a time; fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Dip into
the honey.

Oh, Where Do The Fairies Hide?

Oh, where do fairies hide their heads
When snow lies on the hills,
When frost has spoiled their mossy beds,
And crystallized their rills?

Beneath the moon they can not trip
In circles o'er the plain;
And draughts of dew they cannot sip,
Till green leaves come again.

Perhaps in small blue diving bells,
They plunge beneath the waves,
Inhabiting the twisted shells
That lie in coral caves.

Perhaps in red Vesuvius,
Carousals they maintain;
And cheer their drooping spirits thus,
Till green leaves come again.

When they return there will be mirth,
And music in the air,
And fairy wings upon the earth,
And mischief everywhere.

The maids, to keep the elves aloof,
Will bar the doors in vain;
No keyhole will be fairy proof,
When green leaves come again.

* roses *

*Faeries glide on the morning dew of roses,
hidden in deep forests during the day,
coming out to dance in the starlight. *

Roses attract the Faery to a garden. Their sweet scent will lure elemental spirits to take up residence close by. Roses can be used in Faery love spells. When performing the spell, sprinkle rose petals under your feet and dance softly upon them while asking the Faery for their blessing on your magick.
Roses are loved by the fey so you can plant Roses in your garden to attract fairies. Wild Roses are best for this purpose. Say the following spell as you plant your baby Rose bush:

"I ask a fairy from the wild,
To come and tend this wee rose-child.
A babe of air she thrives today,
Root her soul in the Goddesses' good clay.
Fairies make this twig your bower,
By your magic shall time see her flower!"

The scent of roses is a powerful attracting force to the Faery. Wear rose oil when seeking the Fae Folk. A rose water preparation can be made by taking 21 measures of rose petals and steeping them in a copper kettle with a lid. They should be left to soak for the space of full moon to full moon. This rose water can be used to scent the body and hair and as "holy water" in works of Faery Magik.

the OAK

It is said, "Faerie Folks are in old oaks". It wasn't for naught that the druids set such store by oaks. They contain faerie magic! The fruit of the oak tree, acorns, can be made into faerie talismans if found and gathered by the light of the full moon.

a spell to call the Highland Faery Cat - the Cait Sith

I take no responsibility for any herbs suggested here. Rue is highly allergic !!!! I also do not take any responsibility if you become the proud owner of a new cat!

Bind your forehead, inside you bonnet, a bouquet of the mystic herbs chicory, henbane, and rue and go by night to the summit of a small hill, or a grassy knoll. Place seven white stones in a circle around you, and bless each one. Stand in the centre and perform a song for the faeries. Say aloud before you begin: 'This is for the faeries.'
When you have finished, bow three times to the moon, and say aloud:

'Faeries, I have danced for you, Faeries, I have sung for you, Now, I pri' thee, send to me The Faery Cat, the spirit Cait Sith (pronounced "shee") My guide and safeguard for to be.'

Having chanted the charm three times, you must cast the henbane upon the hill where you have danced; and you must take home with you the seventh stone from which you formed your magickal circle, and the chicory and rue which comprised two parts of the nosegay bound about your brow.

When you are home, brew yoursefl a tisane (tea) from the herbs, and go at once to your bedchamber to drink it, carrying the seventh stone with you.

Bless the stone with the sign of the holy cross, anoint it with three drops of water from the tisane, and finish the rest before slipping into bed.

Once there, drop the stone beneath your bed at it's head, that it's place on the floor corresponds with your pillow. Say the charm again three times before sleeping, and as you begin to dream, the Cait Sith will come to you and make itself known to you.

Never take the stone away from beneath your bed, letting it remain directly below the point where your head lies; and if it should happen that a little stray cat presents itself to you, take it in, for it will harbour the spirit of the Cait Sith, and you may call upon the Cait Sith, and know that you have a friend and protecting spirit at all times. Thank the fairies for this, and the kindly goddess of the moon, who is mother to all mortals.

Gnomes..

Gnomes are earthly creatures, guardians of sacred places or things. They prefer to live in forests. Their weakness is sparkly things like precious stones, coins and things that glitter and they make beautiful items out of stones and gems. They are the knowers and are extremely clever. Make a magical offering to the Gnome and ask for "Earthly" favours. If you're lucky enough to spot one in your garden, he will be serious and likely to be offering practical insights

spell to see the fae - faery potion water

On a Dawn morn or dusk eve, find a special bottle, a pretty one the Fae would like And pour into it:

1 cup gathered spring or rain water
1 teaspoon of Pink Rose petals
½ teaspoon Lavender flowers
Add 3 Quartz crystals
Add 3 Amethyst Chips
Nine inch piece of pink ribbon

Now hide this away in a dark cool place for three days.

On the third day, again at dawn or dusk, in a place you think you might spot the Fae, like an Oak tree, backyard or mushroom patch in the forest. Even a potted plant, herb or Flower will do.

Tie a nine inch piece of Pink ribbon around bottle neck.

Next, close your eyes and sprinkle 9 drops over each eyelid of your "Faery Potion Water", be careful not to get it IN your eyes!

Next recite this Faery incantation and watch for the Fae:

"Ribbon of pink, I just might think.
I would like to see the Fae today.
Special sight of Faery's flight,
Send to me the way today.
A sprinkle here a sprinkle there,
A secret spell I say today.
Wispy wings and little things,
Are what I'd like to see today."

PLEASE note this may need to be repeated to see the Fae, as they are VERY cautious little creatures!

Believe in the Fairies

Believe in the Fairies
Who make dreams come true.
Believe in the wonder,
The stars and the moon.
Believe in the magic,
From Fairies above.
They dance on the flowers,
And sing songs of love.
And if you just believe,
And always stay true,
The Fairies will be there,
To watch over you!

sprites

Sprites are playful nature spirits that live in ponds, trees or other cool and serene places. They often play with nymphs and butterflies and were charged with changing the color of the leaves in autumn, each one comes fully equipped with bright orange & yellow paints and several paint brushes to make sure his/her job is done properly. Sprites are also some of the most creative of the faekith ... They are muses to artists and poets and can bond to humans or elves, in which case they stay for the rest of their lives. There are also weather-Sprites who deal with the clouds and rain, but that's normally done by particular rogue Faeries who like to cause havoc !!

* Milkweed *

(Madge Williams)
Both Monarch butterflies and fairies like milkweed. If Milkweed is planted in a Witches garden, the fey will always be in the area. The silky tassels of the Milkweed pods can be added to a dream pillow to not only make it softer but also to make you dream of fairies. In the Autumn when the pods are bursting and the fluffy seeds are flying across the fields, a wish is granted for each seed that can be caught and then released again

I do love Monarch butterflies! here is a little fun thing to do in your play time...the Butterfly hat - colour it in and BELIEVE it is very good.... and hang it on the wall for all to see! You can even give yourself a gold stamp for work well done!

Faery dream pillow

Cut out two squares of soft fabric approximately 6 inches square.... velvet, velveteen or satin are preferred, sew around three sides of the squares with white or silver thread.

Mix in a bowl:
Rose Petals (two parts) ; Primroses (one part) ; Bay leaves, fresh (one part) ; Lavender (one part) ; Milkweed pod silky tassels (two parts)

Turn the pillow inside out so that the seams don't show, stuff the pillow with your herb mixture. Sew up the end so that the herbs stay in the pillow. You can then decorate the pillow if you want with lace, silk, or embroider with designs, etc. Take this pillow to bed with you at night and put it under your pillow. This not only smells great but also will help you to have dreams of the fey. NOTE: After six months these pillows may lose their "fresh" scent. You can reuse them by emptying out the old contents and refilling them with new herbs and of course, if you don't have the herbs that are mentioned...you can always substitute!

*faery tree*

Some say that faery folk live inside trees. But not every tree is suitable for faeries, they do have their favourites. Look in woods or parks for a tree that is weirdly shaped. Old twisted oaks or knobbly hawthorns are ideal faery trees. Find one that is crooked with strangely curled branches. Often these stand alone in some mysterious corner of a dark and lonely wood. If there is a stream nearby, all the better. You may see a gnome like face on the gnarled trunk. Or a claw like branch hanging down as if about to snatch you. This will be the faery tree.

Having found the faery tree you must now stand quietly and think of the joy that the tree has brought to this world of ours. Look up at its wonderful branches, admire their shape. These are like no other branches on Earth, this is a very special tree. Hold love for this tree in your heart and talk gently to it. Tell this faery tree that you are a friend. Accept that this tree is a gift from God to the world. Be as one with the tree. Be at peace.

On your first visit to the faery tree just stay a short while and before you leave say these few words of poetry. Speak them aloud talking directly to the tree and the faery folk will hear them.

I come with love and hope in my heart
To you fairy folk I speak
I will not disturb or cause you pain
I promise to respect your private domain
And ask no more than you would give
Please can I be your friend.

Say this with meaning. If you don't mean it then do not say it. Faery folk hate liars, so always tell them the truth. If you don't believe in faeries, then forget it. One thing is for sure, they won't believe in you. However, even if you really do believe, sometimes the faery folk just will not let you see them. Don't be too disappointed if this happens. Just keep talking to them with love and hope in your heart. They'll be listening, honest!

a faery prayer

A Faery Prayer to invoke the Sidhe into your life, home and heart!
This offering can be used as a daily prayer or ritual invocation. To begin, find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. You may want to light a Faery candle to help you draw in the energies of the Sidhe. Sit comfortably, relaxing your body with rhythmic breathing. Allow your mind to settle, releasing any errant thoughts. When you feel completely calm and at peace, ring a small bell three times, and begin your prayer. As you speak, visualize images of the Good Folk. See the light of their spirits gathering all around you. Say the prayer one or three times, and then ring the bell seven times. Wait in silence for any communion or communication the Faery might offer.

Mist-clad in the light of the moon
Starspun seekers - I search for thee!
Faery light - I ask thy boon
Of branch and thorn and Elder tree!
Wood woven creatures, shadow weavers
River keepers - come to me!
Just beyond reaching
Never in keeping
Spirits of Faery - I call unto thee!
Wind-hewn wildness
Dark and brightness
Spiral enchantments - born of the sky!
Cradle me with elven hands,
Abide with me, thy human child!

When you are ready to return to your ordinary consciousness, ring the bell three times and with deep full breaths, inhale vital energy and vitality. Record any special experiences in a journal so that you will retain them in full detail.

attracting faeries to your home

F. Baumgarten

Be Warned! Once they are invited in, they may never leave
1. Spend time in nature.
2. Meditate while sitting under trees, around lakes, etc.
3. Have plants and flowers inside your house or apartment.
4. Be cognizant of the abuses of nature and do your part to clean it up and reverence it.
5. Involve yourself in some creative activity on a regular basis. You don't have to be expert in it, but enjoyment of any creative activity will draw those of the faerie realm.
6. Leave an area in your yard to grow wild so that the faeries can play freely.
7. Be generous in your dealings with others.
8. Keep the child in you alive.
9. Place an echinite (fossil sea urchin) on your mantelpiece. They were called faerie loaves, made by the faeries. Those who had them would never want for food and always had faerie assistance.

10. Sing often. Nature spirits gather wherever there is song and music.
11. Keep your house relatively clean. Unless you are trying to attract a brownie, most faeries shy away from mess.
12. Once you have a faerie in your home, never leave it monetary gifts. A thimble of milk and a little bread with honey will do just fine.

A Spell to Call a Faery

( Gilbert Williams)

Chant this while in the woods, a forest or other secluded place:

Faery Folk, Faery Folk, Faeries & the Fee
Give me the sight so that I may see
I come with a light heart feeling happy & gay
please show yourself to me on this day

faery bread

Spread a slice of fresh white bread liberally with butter. Make sure to reach into all four corners. Shake 100's & 1000's over buttered bread. Slice in half, diagonally. DO NOT cut into halves from any of the straight edges. Your faery bread will taste significantly different if you cut it the wrong way. Display your finished faery bread on top of each other. Pile them up, they won't stick to each other if you've used plenty of 100's & 1000's. Eat!!

* Clover *

Clover is a sacred faery plant. Fields of clover are believed to attract faeries, a four-leaf clover is said to provide protection against the fae and to be able to break fairy spells and glamors. Wearing a four-leaf clover in your hat supposedly grants you the power to see invisible fairies, as does anointing yourself with an ointment made from four-leaf clover, or carrying a charm made of seven grains of wheat and a four-leaf clover. The faeries of clover often have an elfin quality about them and assist in finding love and fidelity. They can aid in developing psychic abilities. The clover faeries reveal themselves readily to individuals who display kindness toward nature. They often first show themselves through flickering lights around the clover itself. The faeries of white clover are most powerful and apparent around the time of the full moon. Ordinary water can become enchanted by infusing it with clover found at favourite haunts of faeries. Washing the eyes with this water can awaken fae sight.

The four leaf clover spell
If a maid will slip a four~leaf clover into her left shoe, and tie a garland of myrtle and clover around her brow, she will see the fairies as the moon comes up.

mermaids and off to the seaside.....

I adore mermaids but I can honestly say that I am not one.. I know I am a faery - you can tell by the shoes I wear.
Mermaids are water-dwelling females with long-hair. Woman to the waist and a fish tail below. She is musical. Often sings or plays the harp. They normally inhabits the sea, but may also be found in lakes, rivers, wells and other watery places. Mermaids may sometimes adopt land-dwelling children, making them their protector. Mermaids may also marry a land-dweller, or draw men to under the sea with them, either allowing them to live-in bliss or to be drowned, depending on her whim. Nixes are similar to mermaids, but are able to assume totally human form, but they always retain some mark of being non-human.

here are a few colouring pages to keep you busy

The shells she sells are surely seashells.
So if she sells shells on the seashore,
