It is here, in the tangles of branches and softness of moss where most secretive of the Faerie live. Many things may lie in the turn of the path. Perhaps a cottage awaits where a wise woman will teach you the secrets of her garden. Or perhaps you will find a maiden enclosed within a coffin of glass, waiting in stillness for the touch of lips upon her own. Or perhaps you will find a castle surrounded by briar. It is within the forest that many adventures of Faerie begin. The strange mists that filter through the stillness often form into vague shapes of beasts and monsters, confusing and frightening the mortal traveler. This place is a place of illusions, of voices and sounds and seeings that will try to take the traveler from off her path, lead her into the forest, and make her forever lost within. Perhaps she will remember to gather pebbles to drop behind her as she investigates the strange and beautiful music that floats through the air with the mist.

oAk

Fairies cherish the Great Oak and use the acorns for decoration, celebrations and use the tops for hats. Magic oak leaves are used in the autumn celebrations. Legend tells us "Faery folks are in the oaks". Oak trees are believed to provide safe havens and homes for many varieties of faery. Hundreds of faeries have been found to live in the oldest Oaks. The health and energy of the surrounding fairy garden plays a major role in determining how many fairies actually live in the Great Oak. Try placing crystals in the ground surrounding the Great Oak if you feel that the energy needs lifting. It wasn't for naught that the druids set such store by oaks. They contain faerie magic! The fruit of the oak tree, acorns, can be made into faerie talismans if found and gathered by the light of the full moon.

No oaks here either!! Too cold again although they do grow further south in Canada.

I love them though and had a lot living in England.

They are wonderful trees!

I have a small one in a pot in my garden- its just three years old, and I grew it from an acorn I picked up in Glastonbury. obviously its not very big yet, but i expect great things from it!

They are slow growers so i'll never see it as a huge tree, but i hope my grandchildren(one day) will.

I have grandly named it 'The Glastonbury Oak' and I take good care of it... :-)

We had an massive Ash tree in our garden when I was little and I just knew that faeries lived in it.

Loved the Lucie Mabel Atwell pic of gnomes so evocative of my childhood.

I love the oak tree too, it's so very majestic !! We haven't got one closeby, so I need to go to a forest to see one : ( My garden is too little for an oak tree, but I've got other fairy trees there.

I love the oak as well, there are two in the the field where my horse lives in. One is a mature tree, when it rains a pool forms all around its base. he other is small but look ancient, it's a miracle it's still standing. I love the enchanted forest btw :-)
